Newt Gingrich has a good piece on innovation and health care in today's Wall Street Journal. This is an important topic that I have written on before, but the point needs to be repeated. Innovation provides a host of benefits for us as a nation, from the standpoints of health, economics, and national security (Gingrich's piece focuses on the health-benefits aspect). Unfortunately, Washington policy makers often lose sight of those benefits in seeing the life-sciences industry as a source for near-term revenues rather than future cures.
